Healthy Aging Series

In partnership with the Welland Public Library, Seaway Mall Branch Welland McMaster Family Health Team brings you Healthy Aging workshop series.

September 19th, 2018 - Fitness, Falls Prevention and Nutrition

October 17th, 2018 - Sleep, Stress, Mindfulness and Medications

November 21st, 2018 - Memory Loss, End of Life Planning and POA (Power of Attorney)

 

Workshops are from 10:30am - 12:30pm, with lots of time for questions.

Hosted by the Seaway Mall Branch of the Welland Library Community Room.

 

 

Gentle Yoga

Do you suffer from low back pain? These yoga sessions will focus on mindful awareness of body sensations, posture and breathing techniques, as well as targeted stretches and strengthening poses to help manage and improve your lower back pain. Chairs and other props will be used.

Thrive Despite Pain Group

6-week group program addresses:
    • Chronic Pain Syndrome
    • Ways to improve function of daily living including sleep, stress management, relationships
    • Understanding pain triggers, setting limits and pacing
    • Information regarding medication & nutrition

 Focus on coping, not curing with attention to mindfulness techniques and restorative yoga

Mindfulness

The practice of Mindfulness helps reduce stress by breaking some of the unconscious habits of thinking and behaving that stop you from living life to the fullest.  

Join us on the 2nd and 3rd Wednesday of every month from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Free of charge and no registration necessary.

Held at the Community Wellness Complex, no membership required.

Forest Therapy

Spend time in nature to improve your health and wellness!
Many studies have shown that spending time in natural settings has important health and wellness benefits, such as:

Physical Health

  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Strengthens immune system
  • Reduces pain
  • Improves sleep

Mental Health

  • Decreases stress
  • Reduces feelings of anger and aggression
  • Reduces depression and anxiety
  • Improves concentration and memory function

Forest therapy isn’t about exercise for the body, but it is exercise for the soul. It is a guided stroll through the forest with a focus on Mindfulness techniques. Recommended for all ages and abilities.

Time: 2 hour walk

Bone Health Workshop Series

Join our team of professionals for weekly topics important to your bone health followed by the practical application of exercises you can learn to do safely in your own home.

Week 1 - Introduction to Osteoporosis & 1 hour exercise

Week 3 - Eating Guidelines for Strong Bones & 1 hour exercise

Week 4 - Home-based Exercises and Fall Prevention
